Cross-Linking
In order to stop further progression of
keratoconus for several years, since 2000 the so-called “cross-linking
treatment” is used. According to previously available reports keratoconus can
be stopped for 3 to 5 years by using this treatment.
Prerequisites for
assessing the keratokonus procedure are corneal scans using the Orbscan
topography that measures the structure of the anterior and posterior corneal
surface as completely as possible to determine the thickness of the cornea. In
order to asses this scans it is important that they are be made biannual or
annual.
