LASIK – The Method
LASIK is a scientifically approved method for the correction of shortsightedness (myopia) up to about -10 diopters and astigmatism up to about 3 diopters. Depending on the corneal thickness, it is also used to correct farsightedness (hyperopia) to +4 diopter.
With the LASIK method tissue from the inner part of the cornea is removed. With a special device, a thin flap of corneal tissue is partially separated and folded up. The now exposed corneal layer is then optimized by targeted ablation of the tissue with the excimer laser. Now the flap is repositioned over the stromal bed of the cornea. This process only takes a few seconds and is painless. The healing process is very quick and you rapidly reach your full eyesight. Either during or after treatment pain is noticed.
